How to Lose Fat from Hips and Thighs

And many of us have even been through the frustrating and difficult process of weight loss. It is maddening when in spite of all your efforts you don’t lose weight from problem areas. Yes, hips and thighs!  They are most difficult areas to lose weight from. You may ask, “ how to lose fat from hips and thighs ? ” Spot reduction is a big challenge. Who does not wish to have a well shaped hips and those lovely thighs and legs?.

A lot of people think that they know how to lose fat from hips and thighs. The answer is simple. Working out those muscles more and more will help in losing fat from hips and thighs. But this is not the complete story. To be able to lose fat from hips and thighs you must attack it from 2 angles. Diet and exercise in combination will help you achieve your goal faster and in a healthier manner, without needing to over work those muscles. Here are some tips on how to lose fat from hips and thighs.

How to lose fat from hips and thighs

Dietary changes –

  • Check the oil that you are using. Vegetable-based and olive oils are good for you. Cut down on ghee, butter, cheese, paneer and margarine.
  • Limit your carb intake. Restrict yourself while eating potatoes, white rice, sago, pasta and other products made of refined flours.
  • Use only skimmed milk and skimmed milk curd.
  • Give up on all the fried foods until you get that shape. Nothing will come easily. Avoid fries, pakodas, samosa, fried momos, chips, and other fried snacks.
  • Increase your fibre intake. Eat whole cereals, oats, broken wheat / daliya, brown rice, brown breads, fruits with skin and a lot of green veggies. If possible mix bran into your flour.
  • If you are a non-vegetarian and enjoy fish, you will love this diet. Eat fish upto 4 times a week. Bake it, grill it but don’t fry it. You can have other lean meats up to 2 times in a week. And egg whites for breakfast are a good idea.
  • 2 tsp of Triphala churn, along with ginger water is excellent way to help you liver to break down fats speedily and effectively.
  • Cut the intake of wheat. Extra carbs always end of on hips and thighs. Include other cereals like jowar, bajra, and mix these flours with horse gram flour and soya flour.
  • Go very light with your dinners. A plate full of salad made out of veggies, sprouts, fruits along with soups will help. Fill in with a very small portion of brown rice or daliya. In short have a fiber and protein rich dinner and go low on carbs. Eat dinner around 7.30 pm and having a small walk after it will only add up to your goal.
  • Consume as much of water as you can and eat different varieties of melons for better results.

 How to lose fat from hips and thighs through exercise

  • Walking is the best exercise for your hips and thighs. Walking up to 4 km per day will make your goal appear closer and closer.
  • If I ask you, “how to lose fat from hips and thighs”? you would probably answer cross trainer or the cycle at gym. Frankly you are not helping yourself if you are doing these to lose fat from hips and thighs. These exercises will only help you in tightening your muscles and then bulking them up.
  • If you have been walking already, but don’t see much result, then you might need to increase the distance by a km and the intensity of walks from the 30th minute onwards. Also check your diet to ensure you are following the tips above.
  • Lunges and squats will help you too. Remember to check your posture while you do these exercises. Wrong posture can cause pain.
  • Running and jogging, hiking and trekking will help you too.

Now that you know how to lose fat from hips and thighs all you need to do is tailor the above given tips to suit your plan. You could slowly increase your exercise and go easy with the diets. You may also want to read

    i m Upasana . .i am 19+ and i have put on some weight no matter how much yoga i do its nt at all helpful and i want to reduce my thigh fat and increase my height .well my present height is 5.5 .nd i wnt it to increase by 3inches . .The problm is that i stay in hostel so mam kindly can you say me what should i do?????

      19 years is par the developmental age , i am afraid but height will not increase any further. if yoga doesnt suit you , try doing aerobics or walking / jogging or any other form of exercise . that will help you better

    I have fat around my stomach, hips & thighs, I have to reduce it by hook or crook. I am just 19 yrs old. I was diagonised with hypothyroidism, had not got my regular periods for almost 1.6 yrs. Now, with medication I am cured of hypothyroidism, with medication i get my periods, I also have PCOD. I was given harmones initially. I weigh 55 kgs. But I hav to reduce around these areas fast. My diet is as follows : morning- a bowl of papaya & banana, afternoon – 2 med. pulkas, with some vigies cooke without oil & coconut. Evening – 1/2 muskmelon or 1 cucumber or 1/2 glass of milk with sugarfree oat biscuits & night – one serving of upma with 1/2 tps of oil & lots of vegies or 1 cup of oats. 1 drink about 1 to 1 1/2 ltsr of (water & green tea). I go to the gym & do cardio, weights, aerobics, cycling, walking, dancing, etc. EVEN with all these, the fa reduces to melt . WHAT DO I DO ??? I am desperate.

      if gyming is not suiting you , change the pattern of your exercise , so swimming or kick boxing or zumba instead. sometimes the body refuses to respond to exercise that your body has gotten used to . in such a case , changing the time or form of exercise is the best thing to practise.

    Good evening, I have hip and thigh weight since 2 yrs, it kept piling on. I’m 19 and I weigh 75kgs. I started going to the gym since two weeks. Can you suggest me some good diet that will help this process go faster.

      Hi Rupal , weight loss is not so easy and simple , people have tro really put in efforts to be able to lose even a single kg. so dont put unrealistic goals in front of you . at your age, the best way to lose lower body weight is to eat healthy (no dieting )and do atleast 1 hour of walking / jogging.

    Hello mam, I am 18 years old. My height is 5’4″ and weight 75kgs. I am working out since last 1 month and I have lost 5 kgs in 15 days. But now it has come to a steady state. I do walking and aerobic exercise daily for 45 minutes and then squats and lunges but I dont see any change in my thighs. Is there any other way? And how do I lose weight from my arms? I need to lose it in the next 1 – 2 months

      it takes around 8 weeks to see the real difference so just hang in there and do what ytou feel is best in terms of diet and exercise. the 5 kgs if gone so soon would be your water weight and not really fat weight hence it might not be veyr visible. you need to use weights and exercises your arms to be ablr to lose arm fat

      what is your height ? have you check your BMI , this is possible if you are in your normal weight range .. also check on the measurements , co if weight is normal , you tend to lose in inches rather than in kgs .

    Hi Payal,

    Have read most of your blogs. Very impressive. I need your advice. I suffer from Thyroid and high Prolactin, both contribute to weight gain. I walk 8km.. 10000 to 12000 steps daily. I follow normal diet with no heavy and oily nor fattening food.. And still I have not lost weight.

    Please advice..

        early morning-meethiseed water (soaked overnite) then take my thyroid pill
        After half an hr-5almonds
        after half an hr-breakfast-raisin bra cornflakes/brown
        Bread sandwich of cucumber
        Lunch1.30-2.00-2roti,veg,curd and salad
        evening 4.00-ginger lemon and honey tea/milk coffee
        dinner8.30-9.00-2roti,veg/dal
        after every meal i give a gap of half hr and take luke
        warmwater plz if this is fine and sometimes in dinner i do take veg soup with two slice brown bread.

      diet is ok , now you need to add exercises to your routine. looking at your age, i will ask you to not follow any crash diet. just exercise for 1 hour everyday , walk, jog , do dancing or zumba .. this will help you tremendously in shaping your body.
