Antibiotics kill the bacteria causing the bladder infection. Depending on the type of antibiotic it is prescribed for once or twice a day for five to seven or more days. It is important to finish full antibiotic course even if you feel better in between.
Severe infections with long time without urination cause pelvic region pain. Pain medications relieve abdominal cramps, back pain, or any other discomfort. According to intensity the doctor will prescribe the relevant pain killer.
Urination flushes the bacteria from your system.
It strengthens the immune system and fights the infection.
Here is a sample Indian diet plan for urinary tract infection. This plan is effective for both men and women.
Empty stomach: 1 glass warm water
Breakfast: 1 glass Fruit smoothie – (1 cup curd + 2 tablespoon oats + 8 – 10 blueberries ½ or kiwi + 1 pinch cinnamon)
Midmorning: ½ cup apple cider vinegar
Lunch: 1 cup vegetable soup + 2 Chapatis + 1/2 cup brown rice + 1 cup vegetable + 1 cup sprouts + 1 cup curd
Mid Afternoon: 1 glass buttermilk
Evening: 1 glass green juice (cucumber + bottle gourd + mint + ginger + spinach + pinch of rock salt)
Dinner: Same Quantity as Lunch
Bed time: 1 glass warm Milk with 1/2 tsp turmeric.

Water removes the bacteria in your bladder and helps to get rid of the infection faster. It dilutes the urine and makes it less painful. Drink at least 2 – 3 litres of water per day even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Frequent urination eliminates the infection by throwing bacteria out of the bladder. Holding urine leads to multiplication of bacteria in the bladder.
Applying heat pads across your abdomen or back soothes the mild pain. You can also soak a small towel in warm water and place it over your bladder or abdomen.
Tight jeans and clothes trap moisture in delicate areas. This moisture gives rise to bacteria in groin area. Loose cotton clothes allow your skin to breathe and help to keep the bacteria away from around your urinary tract tissues. Prefer cotton underwear, loose cotton pants or skirts to facilitate air circulation and reduce bacteria growth.

Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties that fight bacterial infections. Add 10 drops of tea tree oil in your bath water to wash the urethral opening. This helps to reduce pain that accompanies UTI. Do this once daily for three to four days.
Vitamin C boosts immunity and fights UTI. It creates pH to kill the bacteria in urine itself. Fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C help fight UTI. Consume red peppers, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, bananas, papaya and kiwifruit all contain high vitamin C.

Pro biotics provide healthy microbial environment in the gut as well as body. It improves immunity and decreases the risk of UTI. It can be taken as a supplement, curd, yogurt, buttermilk or kefir.
Complex carbs and fiber clear the gut of impurities. It also flushes out the unwanted bacteria and increases the immunity. Eat whole grain cereals, whole fruits, vegetables and isabgol.

Blueberries have antibacterial properties that can help treating UTIs. The antioxidants prevent growth of bacteria. You can consume fresh blueberries or unsweetened blueberry juice. Daily consumption can help to prevent UTI.
Cinnamaldehyde in cinnamon acts as an antibiotic and pain reliever. Research shows cinnamaldehyde prevents growth of E. coli with no toxic effects on urinary bladder. Add cinnamon liberally on oatmeal, fruit, yogurt or smoothies.
Apple cider vinegar has useful enzymes, potassium and other useful minerals that prevent the bacterial growth. It acts as a natural antibiotic.

Amla is high in vitamin C. It inhibits the growth of UTI bacteria. Boil 1 teaspoon amla powder with 1 teaspoon turmeric powder in a cup of water till it reduces to half. Have this daily.
