i have been recently diagnosed with diabetes. I would like to try to control it without medicines. i also have additional problem with number of accidents which resulted in loss of cartilage in both the knees. i am able to walk with medium pace, but cannot sit down on low chairs, stools or floor. i have been going for regular walks & do little excercise, strict diet and within a month i have managed to loose 2kg, My fasting sugars have come down from 173 to 117 but post lunch is still higher at 150 against 175 done earlier.
i am looking for guidance for GI index , what cooked vegetables can be included .

First of all congratulations on the successful weight loss. We are glad our diet helped you. HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR RECENT SUGAR LEVELS ? Please go in for a routine diabetic check up to a diabetologist who can check your sensory responses and other parameters. once you get the reports , please convey to me. it is hard to give general tips to a diabetic patient without knowing the actual parameters. this can be harmful to you .

    Hi Payal,
My mother has recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I have been reading a lot and have found that a perfect diet with good metabolism and timing can relieve you of it. But unfortunately most Indian sites are with a limited meal plan, and different sites suggest differently. Some say wheat has a higher GI where some suggest Roti is fine .
Please suggest an extensive meal plan which she could alternate over a few days.
    Thank you

      Hi Murtaza ,

we need to plan a personalized diet for your mum to make sure her sugars get controlled. unfortunately we are not providing diet services till feb 2016 .. may be you can contact us after that and we could plan a diet specially for her and her medical conditions and requirement . but to be frank , roti is good , and you should not avoid it completely . rather no food should be completely avoided in diabetres . only the quantity of intake should be restricted based on the effect it has on your blood sugars.

      Hi Kavita,

you are very young to be facing knee pain problesm . the obvious reason can be weight. what i wuld suggest to you is to check the food intake . you need to mind the calories you eat . diet for a while and get ypur weight down by 30-4 kgs , after which your pain will subside down and then you can start with small walks on plain surface. then slowly increase the timings . as the weight will be lost , you would feel better and more energetic to perform more at walking . and all this will in turn help with weight loss. o its a cycle. you put in a little effort in the beginning and the benefits will run back to you in some time . dont lose your heart dear . just build up the courage and start somewhere.

This seems idealistic. But is there a healthy evening snack – I have noticed I tend to binge eat around 5-6 pm.
Also, I have been working out regularly – gym/jogging/dancing. But though I haven’t gained weight – I haven’t lost any either. I weigh 66 kg (post dinner weight) at 5.5 ft (female). Is my diet the problem? And what exactly can I change in my diet to get a healthy weight loss regime?

yes , you can have besan chilla alternately and lauki , tinda or any other green vegetable. this 1 day diet chart is just for reference . you do not need to follow the same routine everyday. follow it till you feel it is helping you lose weight

    Hi,

I am 5.9 aged 34 years. i do desk job and due to lethargic lifestyle and not eating properly, also my being an anti morning person, i have developed belly fat and fat on thighs also.
i want to come back in fit shape. but I feel a lot of weakness even if i walk for a while.
i often feel feverish but my hemoglobin level is viable and do not have diabetes but i suffer from over active bladder which causes me frequent urination. i drink a lot of water throughout the day. i must admit that i have stopped eating fruits for some time. i am not too foody, i eat 2 roti with sabji or daal and chaval. i start my day with a cup of tea with milk. in breakfast i take biscuits or bread or eggs just one piece or so. in lunch i take normal sabji roti or daal chawal. i dont eat salad as such. in non veg, i eat only chicken and that too occasionally. i find excising alone quite boring and tiresome. now i have started taking green tea once or twice a day.
please suggest me way out to reduce belly and thigh fat ASAP.

      Hi,

you need to observe what you eat when you are gyming . gyming increases your appetite and you tend to eat more than usual hence no weight loss. body will shape as you are working out the muscles and toning them .

      Hi Manpreet ,

that definitely cant be a reason of no weight loss. Your body must have gotten used to the exercises and walking you do and now adjusts to whatever little calories you are intakingf. this happens in a lot of cases where despite of all efforts you dont lose a bit. breaking this plateau requires a lot of patience …. here is what you can do …….. exercise wise – stop doing what you are already doing for a week … and then you surprise your body with a new activity .. for ex – you have been walking all these days , so now change your activity to swimming / zumba dancing / skatting / gyming / playing badminton or lawn tennis … whatever suits you best. tai chi and kick boxing and pillates work excellently in such cases., i know its hard to find time and availabilty of such sports around you .. but if you want to get there .. you need to find harder !!

Food wise – surprise your body yet agin by co nsuming food stuffs that you never did .. it changes your metabolic graph and hence makes you lose weight …. ex – if you have been eating wheat and rice as staples so far … dont eat them for an entire week , and consume other cereals like bajra , jowar , or ragi …. this funda has worked superbly with my clients .. you can try and see if it suits you too ..

      Hi Rohini,

For weight maintenance, you need to workout for at least 30 mins every day . not more and not less. also you need to keep you food habits clean and healthy . do not eat very little cals and do not go overboard while eating desserts and simple carbs. this is the key to maintenance.

Thanks for reading at dietburrp this is just a 1 day sample plan .. but you can choose from a large variety of veggies – green leafy veggies like palak , methi, bathua, red – yellow – orange veggies like tomato, carrots, pumkin, capsicum, and other beneficial veggies like ridge gourd, bottle gourd, cabbage , cauliflower etc .. just leave potatoes aside ..
