South Indian Diet Plan for Weight Loss (1200 calories)

Last Updated on February 19, 2020 | RD, Payal Banka (Registered Dietitian) 630 Comments

South Indian Diet Plan for Weight Loss – You might just laugh out loud. The titillating aromas of sambars and rasams can actually kill your desire for weight loss. South Indian cuisine is as rich as a Kanjivaram saree. But this richness will add on to the waist size of each saree wearer.

The healthier side of the traditional south Indian platter consists of a variety of koshimbiri, which nowadays is as sidelined as its position on the banana leaf. But nothing is impossible if you make up your mind. So here is a 1200 calorie South Indian Diet Plan for Weight Loss.

For eg., you can replace bhendekai gojju with brinjal/onion/tomato, etc., whichever vegetable you desire. Stick to the basic recipes of koshimbir and add varieties so that you don’t get bored with the plan. Do read on how you can lose weight effectively.

How to make a personalized south Indian diet plan for weight loss?

To make a south Indian diet plan for yourself, follow the following steps

  • Calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) to know your basic calorie requirement.
  • Calculate your BMI to know how over-weight you are and how much you really need to lose to be healthy.
  • Analyze your body stats

These indicators will help you figure out a realistic goal. It is not healthy for any woman to aim at reaching 50 kg without a proper plan. 50 may not be healthy for you. The right weight will depend on your body built, your height, your activity levels, and your lifestyles.  I hope this south Indian diet plan for weight loss helps you in achieving your goals. All the best.

I am sorry but i dont really approve of such crash diets , coz no matter what you do or how much ever less you eat after such crash diet courses, you will gain the lost weight back in a few days. Eat all healthy and avoid all junk.

every thing else is ok , just that dont skip dinner or any other meal completly. you need to eat . if not a proper diet, have a glass of skim milk with a fruit and some cereals . or soups and salad will be good too.

Hi Payal, It was a delight reading your article. Trust me, it is exactly what I was looking for. Im 26 years old man, unmarried. I have been consistently gaining weight since last 4 years and now my weight is a whopping 130 kgs. My height is 6 feet 4 inches. I dream of getting back to my earlier physique but somehow lack the motivation to do so. Gymming is not possible because of hectic work schedules. Experts suggest a weight of 86 kgs for me. So there is a gap of almost 45 kgs to cover. Kindly suggest a diet plan which includes a variety of dishes, as the ones mentioned by you may become monotonous after a while. Also, I would appreciate if you could suggest some exercising regime with types to reduce 45 kgs in 8-10 months time period. I seriously need your help and guidance. Eagerly awaiting your response. Thanks in advance.

      Hi Baldev,

Thank you for reading at Dietburrp. Yes it will get monotonous if you follow the plan for long. actually for a big goal like yours , there are a few things you should know before getting in to it. any diet or exercise regime when followed thoroughly , works for only 20 – 25 days for weight loss. After this the body gets used to it and you will not observe any weight loss.

to be able to lose further weight, you need to change your diet and exercise program every 20 – 25 days, and continous in intervention is needed. a lot of people try to apply a to z of the diet knowledge they have at one time. as a result they observe wonderful weight loss in the first month, but nothing after that , and hence the health goal fades out midway. You too need to apply the logics of weight loss 1 by 1 to be able to reach your health goal. You can start by following the above mentioned plan for first 2 weeks and see how your body reacts, after which ofcourse you need to change the pattern.

if you wish to get a personalized diet plan to suit your lifestyle, food pattern , lifestyle and timings, Please see this page – https://www.dietburrp.com/diet-services/

      Hi Fathima,

I understand your concern. Yes you can start following this diet. I would also suggest you to reduce the number of breast feeds you give and then stop it. If your baby is 1 year old, you can now let her on her own for food needs, as her digestion has improved. This will be good for your health too.

      Hi Shar,

You most definately can . egg whites is no issue at all . along with this you can have either baked / grilled or steamed fish and chicken recipes. make sure you eat these items in limitation and these should be cooked with minimum oil possible. Asmall serve will not hurt !!

    Mam,

I am 26 yr of age (Male). I weigh 100kg and my height is 5ft 7in.

Now all i have is a control over my eating habits. 2 months back i weighed 108 kgs. But now it looks like i have fixed on with 100 kgs since last 15 days. The diet i have followed is 2 roti (oil free/suka roti) with any veg subji in the morning, the same repeated in afternoon and evening meals. And yes i do take normal sugared tea during the tea intervals (like morning bed tea and evening tea at 4pm) with no side snacks. I dont practice any sort of exercise (i love waking but other exercises cause me terrible headaches) as my bp and cholestrol rates are very high. From last week onwards, i have started following medication as my doctor says weight loss is enough to bring back my bp and cholestrol rates under control.

I also feel that my diet is bit harmful as it is causing a slight hairfall (dont know whether this is just a fear or what).

And yes please advice me , is it right to have lemon and 1 tsp honey mixed with 1 cup of lukewarm water (as it is said to be a better component for weight loss).

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thanks,
    Raj

      Hi Raj,

Thanks for reading at Dietburrp. You can try following the diet plan given here – https://www.dietburrp.com/indian-diet-plan-for-weight-loss/ or subscribe with us for a personalized diet plan .

You need to change the pattern of food . sometimes people lose weight by giving up on roti , if roti is what they have been eating since years together .. changing the diet pattern will make you lose weight, without having to change your quantity intakes nd timings . so it is the most convenient thing you can try for now.

I am 68 year old male weighing 72-73 Kg.My height is nearly 5feet 2 inches .I am a diabetic and have hypertension too.I am taking tablets for diabetics for the last 17 years and for BP nearly 30 years. I tried to control my diabetics to my best but now for nearly 1 year my HBA1c seems to be 7 to 8 .I have achieved the highest level of my medicine doses now. Now i understand the Fasting sugar also is 130/140 and PPBS above 200. At this point i think that only remedy is to control my sugar level is to reduce my weight and that too by diet.I am walking daily in the morning nearly 50 to 55 minutes.I am not able to add any more exercises in the morning or evening as I am serving an organization from 9 am to 7 pm.I am a south indian vegetarian and my normal food can be idly/dosa/wheat upma/wheat dosa/oats/ragi kanji/etc. I request you to suggest some meal plan so that i can reduce my weight and control my sugar levels to normal value. Please advice me on my diet and the exercises i have to do to improve my metabolism.Recently i have some problem of piles and habitual constipation also even i take lot of vegetables. Thanking you,

      Hi Mr Sadasivan,

Thank you for reaading at Dietburrp. The diet mentioned above will be helpful in losing weight and controlling your blood sugar levels. Just replace the fruits with veggies like tomato , cucumber and salad leaves.

To reduce your fasting sugar levels – walk for 20 mins after your dinner ( this walk can be done in your home / drawing room while watching tv. or in parking / terrace , elsewhere.)
to reduce pp sugar levels – walk for 10 mins each time after main meals. and within 1 week you will see your blood sugar levels coming in control. and you would start losing good weight too. In case if you face any problems while following the plan , i am here to help.

      Hi Susmitha,

Thank you for reading at dietburrp. You can follow the above mentioned plan. It will help you lose 3-4 gs in a month. If you need a personalized diet plan for weight loss, you can take a look at this page – https://www.dietburrp.com/diet-services/

Green tea helps in weight loss by in creasing your metabolic rate and calorie burning capacity.
oats is high in fiber and helps in weight loss too by bringing satiety and feeling of fullness, and by giving good carbs to the body.

Honey – i am nt very much in favor of honey on a personal basis, as it add calories , i find it helpful only in cases where the person is on a extremly low calorie diet.

After marriage I have gained lot of weight and struggling to reduce it, but couldn’t.. being a homemaker I sometimes miss out on my regular walking. My simple workouts doesnt help as my body gets heated up immediately and I get lot of heat boils the next week. I also have this fluctuating weight gain and loss cz of water weight. To be honest, I have chicken biryani once a week. Me and my hubby are trying to cut down on rice items and strictly stick to chappati for dinner. What kind of exercise will suit our body? And what diet plan should we follow? Help me out pls…..

      Hi Jane,

Thank you for reading at dietburrp. Actually what you are facing is a common problem with a lot of women, it mostly happens due to hormonal changes. Hence the bloating too. Any form of exercise would be beneficial if you do for 45 mins or more , Any less then this will not help much in weight loss. If you dont get enought time for exercise, you can walk for 10 -15 mins each time after your meal , i.e. BF, Lunch and dinner. Although it would not be of much help in weight loss , but it will burn the extra calorie, solve your heat boil problem and help in digestion.

Once a week if you eat chicken biryani it wouldnt harm , just eat in a limited amount, overdoing anything is harmful. Other than this maintain a healthy lifestyle and time schedule and follow any of our 1200 calorie diet chart based on you cuisine.

Your diet lacks fiber .. please include fruits and vegges in your routine. also drink a glass of lemon water 3-4 times in a day will help you in a lot of ways. it will help you look younger, it will kill the stress effect , as your workinmg hours are long and resting hours are less. You need to eat more of red / yellow / orange / and green coloured veggies. antioxidants will change your life … :) https://www.dietburrp.com/antioxidants-and-their-delicious-sources/ read this for help

      Hello sir,

Thank you so much for reading at Dietburrp. I really appreciate your enthusiasm towards becoming healthy even at this age. You are an inspiration to a lot of youngsters who say they dont have time for health goals.
20 mins are not sufficient. you need to walk for atleast 45 mins at a time, you can spend the first 20- 25 mins walking very slowly so that you dont get tired. You can easily follow the above given diet plan for weight loss. this will help you lose 4-5 kgs weight in the first month .,.. and might work for the second month as well .. you need to keep checking your weight to know the result. after a month do let us know how it worked for you and then i can suggest some changes to bring about more weight loss.

yes weight loss at this age is a little slow, but dont worry , 2 kgs weight loss is not bad. can you increase your walking ? you need to walk for 1 5 mins after all 3 major meals. that is breakfast , lunch and dinner, this will not only help you in weight loss , but also help in acidity and gastric problems.
