What are piles?

Pile is a condition in which there are inflammation and swelling in the veins present in the lower rectum. It is also referred to as hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are the structures in the anus that control stool movement. They provide a cushion to arterio-venous channels and connective tissue in intestines that aid the passage of stool.

What are Different Types of piles /Haemorrhoids?

  •  Internal Haemorrhoids: They are painless and may have rectal bleeding
  •  External Haemorrhoids: There is a pain in the area of the anus. A person who is suffering from piles experiences a severe amount of pain while passing stools.

What are the general symptoms of Haemorrhoids:

Indian diet plan for piles

• Itching
• Rectal pain
• Rectal bleeding

In most cases, symptoms will resolve within a few days. While sometimes the symptoms of other gastrointestinal abnormalities may mimic like hemorrhoid symptoms. Thus, rule out any possibilities of fissures, fistula, abscess, irritable bowel syndrome or colon cancer.

Symptoms of internal hemorrhoid:
• Hematochezia: Bright red blood covering the stool.
• Protrusion of hemorrhoids through the anus.
Symptoms of external hemorrhoids:
• Painful swelling or lump around the anus.

What are the Causes of Haemorrhoids /piles?

• Aging
• Genetics
• The absence of valves within the haemorrhoidal veins
• Constipation or constant diarrhea
• A low-fiber diet
• Pregnancy
• Prolonged sitting or standing.
• Feeling of hurriedness during the passing of tools
• Obesity
• Strenuous work and intensive exercises
• Tension, anxiety, and stress

How to treat Haemorrhoids?

• Medication for symptomatic relief.
• Keeping the stools soft to pass easily without any pressure or straining.
• Increase fiber intake and oral fluids.
• Surgery in extreme cases.

Indian diet plan for piles:

Before we see the actual diet plan for piles, we first need to check about the dietary changes and details of which foods to include and which foods to avoid in piles. So let us see them one by one here –

Dietary changes for hemorrhoids:

The primary goal of this Indian diet plan for piles is to get strain-free and smooth stools so there is no further damage to the intestines. Include high fiber foods in your daily diet. Add leafy vegetables, whole grain cereals, millets, salads, unpeeled fruits and unstrained soups with your meals.

How does fiber help in hemorrhoids?

  • The Roughage in the diet is excreted with the other waste products from the intestines.
  • The water-absorbing fiber loosens the stools and helps in easy passage of the body waste a.k.a excreta.
  • Thus, this reduces the pain and inflammation caused by hemorrhoids.

What Foods to Eat to Prevent Haemorrhoids and to Reduce Haemorrhoids?

• Green leafy vegetables are high in antioxidants and nutrients thus are good for digestions. Eat plenty of spinach, kale, cabbage, asparagus, broccoli, tomatoes, cauliflower, onions, cucumber, squash, turnips, carrots, celery, and zucchini. Make these  Greens an integral part of your Indian diet plan for piles.

• Whole-grain foods with bran cereals alleviate the strain applied while passing stools. Healthy foods like brown rice, oatmeal, bran cereals, whole grain flour, whole wheat pasta or multi-grain bread are good options to include in the Indian diet plan for piles.

• Fresh fruits with skin are high in fiber. The vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in fruits improve the digestive system function, easing the bowel movement. Include fruits like apples, strawberries, blueberries, raisins, prunes, and grapes. Fruits that can be eaten without skin are papaya, banana, oranges, grapefruit, and muskmelon.

• Sprouts are rich in fiber, vitamin C, proteins and calcium. All these nutrients help to treat hemorrhoids. Consume at least 1 cup of sprouts daily. But don’t eat raw sprouts as they will worsen the symptoms. Eat sprouts in the soft-cooked or steamed or boiled form to avoid irritation to the bowel.

• Consume psyllium husk to relieve constipation and loosen the stools. Psyllium husk is rich in soluble fiber. It makes the stool bulky and reduces the pressure during defecation.

• Drink at least 3 – 4 liters of water daily. Sometimes only fiber or dietary changes do not work. Thus, increasing water intake aids the easy passage of stool, thus relieving constipation.

• Consume probiotics or curd or buttermilk to aid proper digestion. Probiotics not only increase gut immunity and integrity but also fights back with any infection or inflammation. It relives hemorrhoid symptoms.

The List of Foods to Avoid in Piles :

Indian diet plan for Piles

  • High carbohydrate and high-fat foods. These foods cause irritation to the bowel and also lead to constipation.
  • Meat, fish, eggs to avoid constipation.
  • Caffeinated products, like coffee, tea, chocolate aggravate constipation as well as inflammation of the bowel.
  • Smoking and alcohol too directly or indirectly affect the gastrointestinal wall health.
  • Bakery products made from refined flour, bread, cakes, pastries, pies, and puffs also cause constipation and worsen the hemorrhoids.
  • Spicy food causes bowel irritation and burning sensation while defecating. Eliminate chilies from your diet. It worsens the symptoms of hemorrhoids. Also, avoid black pepper.
  • Gas-forming foods like lentils, pulses, and dals irritate the bowel. hence use them in a properly cooked form and use 1 or 2 servings at the max in a day. Bloating increases pressure during defecation.

Now that you know about the foods to include and the foods to avoid in the Indian diet plan for piles, it is time to see the one-day sample Indian diet plan for piles.

do you have a known pile problem ? if the blood is fresh red in color then it is suggestib=ve of bleeding hemorrhoid. but if it is dark black in colour it can be ulcer also . this has to be diagnosed by a doctor. i am just suggesting. ofcourse other symptoms and signs need to be considered as well.

      Hi,

actually you will have to seriously mind every thing that you eat. no ginger, garlic onion , and spices . if the problem is very severe, then have dahi with rice or dahi pohe for all your meals for 2-3 days , have coconut water and this will help. if you feel constipated you can have milk with ghee at bed time.

depends on your system . if you have bleeding piles, soft rice is a better choice.

Hello Madam, i’m Syed from Hyderabad and i work here in Saudi Arabia due to heavy eating of outside foods i felt an heavy pain in my backside in November 2017 and i visited an Kerala doctor in Saudi Arabia and he asked me to have some medicine, an ointment to Apply and an injection to get pain relief.
then with in 2 days i got relief with the pain and he asked me to avoid fastfoods, meet etc…

i have avoided for some time but due to weekness i started again and there was no pain as well for mean time but from August 2018 i started feeling constipation bloating in stomach again so, i took suggestion from some friends and i started eating more oranges to get relief from bloating etc so, that i can pass my gases easily….it worked but when ever i was eating out side masala and meet foods there was an continues constipation and bloating which was so hard for me to bare but eat more oranges etc to get relief.
but in January it become worse as i took one day a heavy meal in the afternoon and little meat cooked with masala which had with oat and Whole grain Roti. soon after eating i started feeling the pain in my stomach and backside below ribs, i showed to one of the egyptian doctor over here and he gave me some mint tablets to eat in between the meals 3 times a day with 2 mint tablets and a tablet after lunch.
as i went to egyptian doctor as i was his patient for my kidney stones which i was affected in 2016 January and he is the one who removed them through the medicines itself – he made all the tests and he concluded that it is the issue of stomach lining and scaring a gastritis issue.
then i visited one doctor in india who made tests and found mild fatty leaver and little scaring’s in Large intestine only after the endoscopy.
he asked me to eat Galto if i get blotting and a 20 mg tablet before breakfast in the morning for 10 days when ever i feel pain so, i’m following the same now.

after reviewing all the above case can u suggest me what i should have to take for btreakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Thank you madam in advance for your kind help.

      Hi Anamika,

i think you should check with the doctor , coz if the pile is obstructive , a surgery may be required . dont worry , only a physical check up will confirm if this is really needed.

actually juicing them will remove the harsh fiber , which may other wise hurt your piles whilel excreting. hence juice is preffered. if your piles is not inflammated , and you are having a good diet to treat it complletely and you think you can tolerate the fiber , then please have it as per convenience.

It could be a hemorrhoid or just a skin tag , You will have to see a dotor and get a confirmed diagnosis , before we work out on a solution.

anyways is fine. you need to take it before you eat or drink any thing else. and hence before using the loo or after is not really important.
