How is this Indian diet plan for weight gain made?

Weight gain requires a person to take in more calories with good quality proteins and other nutritious food. However, it is hard to provide good quality proteins to vegetarians because of the limited sources available. But in the above-given chart, I have tried to incorporate as many good sources as possible. Addition of skimmed milk powder to your milk and vegetable gravies and also to your dough while kneading are good ways to convert the “not so nutritious food ” into ” nutritious “.

Note – this is a generalized Indian diet plan for weight gain. This Indian diet plan for weight gain may or may not be suitable to you as an individual. Although there is no harm in following this Indian diet plan for weight gain, results will be based on suitability and your personal body requirements. Hi Farhan ,

Dont worry , you can do strength training at home using various heavy objects at home. i am sure you would find some good videos on you tube . food wise you can buy a lot of peanuts and jaggery and use them 5-6 times a day . instead of buying expensive protein powders, you can buy skimm milk powder and use it in your food

      Hi Vritika ,

Height is more of a genetic factor , but sports can definately help in increasing height . you said you are 16 years of age , so i am not really sure if this will help you. but start participating in sports like skating / swimming / basket ball / running / lawn tennis and even karate and kick boxing would help in gaining height and weight if done correctly at the right age .. you can give it a try.

      Hi Prashant ,

yes potato is starchy and has a tyendency to swell up with water and cause bloating. the best way to gain muscle mass is by eating protein rich food. this will help in better ways rather than increasing fats and starch. plz google for images of groundnut chikki and dry fruit chikki, this will help you in understanding the food items . they would help in gaining muscle mass and increase blood volume according to the increased needs. skimmed milk powder is nothing but milk powder of fat free milk. this helps in increasing the protein value of food without increasing the quantity intake . so if you add skimmed milk powder in your chapati dough , the same 1 chapati that gave you 145 cals with 3 gms of protein will now give you 250 cals with 8 gms of protein.

      Hi Anand

there is no single oil that is healthy … to avail the best health benefits , you should combine 2 different oils . PUFA + MUFA + SFA ..
PUFA oils- vegetable based oils like soyabean oil, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil
MUFA oils – groundnut oil, olive oil …
SFA – butter , ghee . (you dont need to add it to your oil .. just have 1 – 2 tsp (depending on your health condition)of ghee in your food )

Th items that you have mentioned in the quantity , it will provide you around 2700 – 2800 calories .. (assuming some calories from the oil required to cook these items. )

    Hi Payal
I am 22 currently studying at IIT Delhi. As I am in my final year, I have like 2 months (June & July) available when I don’t have much workload. How can I benefit the most in these two months provided I haven’t done much of sports since 2005 and I had tried following a healthy routine (half an hour exercise at max) but was never able to continue that for more than a week due to excessive academic load??
    The useful information about me:
    Male
    Height: 5’8″
    Weight: 50 kg

Also my calorie requirement according to BMR calculator is 1474 cal/day and the above plan is of 3000 cal/day. Should I need to choose some items to make it 1500 or have to reduce amounts for each item.
Important point: I am suffering from Gilbert’s Syndrome. I cant consume too much fat or heavy diets.
Please provide the most benefiting direction for me.

One point I forgot to mention that till the last week of November I have time to gain weight because I have to sit for the campus placement in December. I don’t want myself to be skinny that time.
I have more than enough time to provide till the last week of July but zero stamina and no experience in exercises. After July till last week of November, I am going to be very busy but still I will be able to provide half an hour a day for sure.
I also smoke. If my smoking habits are necessary to be discussed, I am happy to provide that information as well.
Please consider this post in continuation of the last one.

      Hi Tanuj,

Thank you for reading at Dietburrp. a few points that you would need to know before you start with your weight gain program …

1] BMR will help you calculate the minimum calorie requirement for your body to carry out the daily involuntary activities like digestion , absorption of nutrients, respiration etc … so the calories you calculated as your BMR is the basic body need of the body .. to gain weight , you must consume around 2000 calories .. this is without exercise .

2] exercise specially strength training is a must for good and healthy weight gain … with strength training you will not only become fit , and gain muscle weight , but you would also gain great stamina and strength .. (not necesarry that you like those heavy muscular macho men … ) so no gain without weight training in your case … you need to find 35 – 45 mins of time everyday and join a health club or gym.

3] when you start exercising , you need to further increase calorie intake to be able to gain weight … hence 2000 cals is not going to be enough and you would have to further increase the calorie intake to 2500 or more .. so more or less , you need to follow the diet chart as it is … with some small changes for here and there …

4] Smoking makes you lose weight, look dull and it kills your stamina, whether or not you are a sports person .. so you need to start cutting down on the total number of fags .. and then gradually stop it for a better and healthier life …

5] Gilbert’s Syndrome is genetic an hence i cant do much about it .. the above mentioned diet is not high in fat , it is high in protein and complex carbs , which should not cause much problem . plus the meals are properly and evenly distributed throu out the day , so any single meal will not over burden your liver … But you need to check the suitability … in case of discomfort , plz let me know or contact your medical assistance.

      Hi Samir ,

you can replace milk with soya milk in that case . and you would be able to get through it .. replace egg with boiled red channa and roasted soyabean . and instead of milk powder , you can add soyabean flour to your regular wheat flour .

      Hi Pranjal,

if your goal is around 10 kgs weight loss, start with simple exercise like walking for 45 mins every day … after a month , you can add jogging in the last 15 mins of your walking session , this will increase the intensity of your exercise and further help you in weight loss . in the last stage you can either join gym or zumba dancing , or swimming or trekking as per your convenience to reach your final weight.

Hello mam. I am 22, male. height 5’6 and weight 50 kgs. I am already following a high calorie and protein diet similar to what u have suggested. But i also take Mass gainer powder with milk. I take 300ml milk with 50 gm mass gainer powder (Dymatize mass gainer) after workout(7pm) and also same again at night at 11 before sleep. I want to know whether this mass gainer is good for health, i gained about 5 kgs since February. Or should i stop taking mass gainer and switch to whey protein instead?

      Hi Akash,

Thank you for reading at Dietburrp. Dont worry , the whey protein supplements are good way out , they dont have side effects like creatine supplements. and are easily absorbed by the body. in any way if you are not exercising or not physically active in your middle age, you will experience loose skin probllem. dont worry , just take whey protein supplements and do weight training , and follow the 3000 calorie diet chart mentioned above and you would be able to reach your health goal.
