Hi Payel, I’ve been recently diagnosed with Type B diabetics. Fasting 216 & PP 392. My weight is 85 and height 5’8″. My age is 43 now.

Suggest me what to eat. BTW I belong from Assam where fresh vegetable is available in abundance.

    Hello,
My mother has been diabetic for more than 10 years now. She has been taking insulin 45 units in morning and 40 units at night for approx. more than 5 years now with very poor diet restrictions . Last day she had a fall and had an ankle fracture. Doctors plañning for an operation found out some ECG changes during the physician fitness. Hence operation was replaced by applying plastercast for 2 months.. I.e. strict bed rest. Kindly give me your expert advice on what foods are to be given at this stage… I have gone through the menu plan for type II DM patients. Will that be fine or are there any changes I shd note?

      Hi Bency ,

well that diet plan is basically for type 2 diabetics . but patients on insulin do not need to follow that strict of a diet plan . her food would depend on what other medications she is taking and her blood sugar levels currently. its better if you get a personalized diet plan for her.

    Hi Payal,

Thanks for writing such an informative and useful blog. I am weighing 111 kg presently and lost about 4 kg in last 1 month by diet and walking but I am not satisfied the kind of diet I am taking.
I am 50 years old and 5ft 9.5 inch tall and weigh 111 kg at present. I am on BP medicine Telma AM once a day. My all parameters including lipid profile, LFT, KFT, thyroid etc. are perfectly normal. Coronary angiography done about 9 years back for chest pain and unsuccessful stress test during routine medical test was normal. As such I don’t have any medical problem except sugar. My HbA1C was 7.7% equivalent to 173 mg/dl about three months back but I could bring it down to 7.1% equivalent to 157 mg/dl by diet control only presently as checked 2 weeks ago.

Please advice me on my diet and suggest a meal plan. I am non vegetarian. My work is mostly on computers now for long hours and I don’t get much time for exercising.

Thanks in advance and congratulations for such a nice work through blogs.

Dear Ms. Payal, thank you for sharing specially designed diet plan for sugar patient with us. I want to cross check with you regarding the diet of my mother. She is 55 years old, she had a operation in 2004 in which doctors removed her uterus due to much pan during periods. After 2-3 years she started complaining about pain in foot and knees, we went to doctor checked with the, after that she diagnosed with BP and sugar. since then she is taking medicines (allopathic). her medicines have been changing gradually, her recent medicines are

    For BP
Arbitel AM (40/50) 2 times and Prolomet XR (50) 1 time

    For sugar
    Istamet (50/500) 2 times / Diamicron XR (60) 2 times

    Other medicines
    Febutaz 40 one time
    Calog D3 one tme
    Neruz-B one time
    Roseday F one time
    Alprax .5 one time
Calog 60K once in a week.

Last week we consulted to homeopathy doctor and stated his medicines too, right now her both medications are going on. She is having light diet and doesnt take meal which grows sugar like rice, potato, juices or so on.

Can you advise diet plan according her medicine as she feel weak and complaining about pain in feet.

      Hi Hitesh ,

firstly, you need to check your BMI, if you are in your right weight according to your height, you need to maintain the weight by managing food , medications and exercises accordingly. food wise , because it is the beginning, its better to get a personalized diet chart made by dietician to suit your needs best.

Hello Payel, You might dont remember I have spoken to you couple of time when I was working in Healthcaremagic. I really feel great to see you here. I am searching a complete diet chart for my father as he is a diabetics patient. His age is 60 and his fasting score is 160 & PP 210 on average ( after taking medicine). I think daily food habit will be the key to control the decease. Can you please give me some expert note what should I do. Thanks in Advance.

type I diabetes is more of a physiologic disorder . if your body is nt able to produce any insulin at all, i am afraid , you will have to continue with the shots.

      Hi Humera,

yes the levels are high , and the swelling may be due to either diabetes or bp . one very clear thing is that if he manages to lose some weight, he will have a better control over his problems and he will become healthy. weight may also be causing the swelling. if his joiints are stressed.

      Hello sir ,

Thanks for reading at Dietburrp . your diet seems ok . and the exercise too. the low sugar control is probably because of your age more than food related. so what we can do is include a 10 – 15 mins walk at home after your 3 main meals. also please follow the tips mentioned in the article above. its good that you have given up on alcohol and sweets. this will help you in better control .

    Hi Madam,
This is kamal, 25 year old. I am type 1 diabetic patient. I have this disease from last 6-7 years . Right now my wait is 73-77 kg. I am taking the insulin regularly. 30 units in morning and 25 units in evening.
I am taking the first dose of insulin in morning before taking breakfast but the second dose I am taking in night before having dinner. So I am doing right or I need to change this schedule. Please guide.
Now-a-days I am feeling hungry after 1.5-2 hours of having dinner. Also, sometimes I am going toilet within the interval of 2-2.5 hours(mostly in evening).
Actually my daily work schedule is so busy and I am travelling so much. Due to this I am not paying attention to this area.
Please guide for the whole matter and if you can pls suggest the diet also.

      Hi Kamal,

see , the dosage of insulin and timings are decided by the doctor based on your blood sugar level, your control and your lifestyle. if you feel hungry after 1.5 hours of dinner, you must tell your doctor, there is a chance that he would consider lowering the dosage , as this might lead to hypoglycemic episodes in your sleep , which is very risky.

if your lifestyle has changed from the time doctor prescribed you the insulin, you need to tell your doctor. infact every time your lifestyle changes or activity level changes , food pattern changes , you must observe how your body is reacting and let the doctor know if it needs to be changed.

you cannot ignore your diabetes . health is foremost and everything else is directly dependent on it . so please give it the needed importance and attention, to live a healthy and successful life.

    Hi Mam,

    I am T2 diabetic for the last 20 years. lease advise if my daily diet plan is Ok becausde my FBS is ok but the PPS is erratic;

Bfast: 2 diabetic wheat chapatties + 1 small bowl of oats.( it shot my PPS from 95 FBS to 233 PPS this morning inspite of additional insulin)

Mid morning; 1 diet bread of 1 apple

Lunch 1 small portion of brown rice with salad and meat.

Evening: 2-3 biscuits + tea without sugar

    Dinner; meat +veg+salad

Bedtime: 1 cup low fat milk.

Is it better to substitute the oats in the morning with white of an egg instead? Possibly High GI foods push my PPS up?

    Kindly advise your suggestion.

    Thank you,

    Carmo

      Hi Carmo,

yes you can replace oats with egg whites , but there is another way out .. you can have oats for breakfast and then walk for 10 mins at home this will help in reducing pps Levels … you havent mentioned your age. make sure your body can tolerate the amount of protein you are in taking.
