Underweight woman may have a disturbed ovulatory cycle. This may be due to low fat percentage. This becomes a hindrance if the couple is planning a baby.

Regular physical activity ensures better body composition, ideal weight and healthy bones. People struggling with hormone problems will not have a healthy ovulatory cycle. Exercise improves stamina throughout pregnancy and at the time of delivery. Also, immunity level in mother improves drastically.

  • Balanced Psychological State:

A calm state of mind, which is free of stress can control the inflammatory process in the body. A balanced psychological state of body releases endorphins. Endorphins control the hormonal secretions in the body which are necessary for conception.

  • Be Smart with Nutrients:

A Harvard study shows that women consuming more of animal proteins, simple carbohydrates and/or trans fats are more likely to experience ovulatory disorder. Also ingestion of excess simple sugars increases fat stores in the body . This results in insulin resistance and makes it difficult to conceive.

During pregnancy fetus receives certain nutrients at the expense of mother’s stores. These nutrients are folate or folic acid, iron, vitamin C and B 12. Along with this, mother and fetus compete to absorb B complex vitamins and vitamin D. The primary concern of nutrition is to have an excellent store of nutrients before pregnancy. Hence Indian Diet Plan For Conceiving is important to follow.

Important Nutrients That help to conceive

Indian Diet Plan For Conceiving consists vital nutrients that help to conceive. These nutrients are folic acid, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B 12 and iron in conjunction with appropriate energy and proteins.

  1. Folic acid –

Folic acid plays an important role in production of DNA and RNA of the foetus. It also reduces the neural tube defects in the foetus. Neural tube defects sets in first 28 days of conception. So woman should have a healthy store of folic acid before conceiving. Hence many gynecologist prescribe folic acid supplements to women who express their interest in conceiving.

Recommendation is 400 – 800 mcg of folic acid around and during conception.

Sources of Folic Acid –

  • Dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and turnip green
  • Broccoli, Lady finger and Asparagus
  • Citrus fruits like oranges , grape fruit etc
  • Beans and lentils and flax seeds.
  • Lentils and sprouts
  • Avocado
  1. Vitamin D –

Vitamin D aids in absorption of calcium and bone strength. During pregnancy vitamin D in fetus is maintained at the expense of mother’s stores. To prevent future osteoporosis and osteomalacia in mother, vitamin D stores at conception is of utmost important.

Sources of Vitamin D –

  • Milk and its products
  • Fish
  • Vitamin D fortified milk or juices.
  • For depleted stores, Vitamin D granules or injections are used.
  1. Vitamin E –

benefits of vitamin E oil for skin and hair

Vitamin E enhances the reproduction process. It maintains the integrity of egg and sperm. The membrane transfer of Vitamin E is very less. Thus, stores Vitamin E of fetus are very low during pregnancy. Read Benefits of Vitamin E

Sources of Vitamin E

  • Almonds  (Read – Benefits of Almonds )
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Fish oils and Palm Oil
  • Avocado and Spinach  (healthy spinach soup recipe )
  1. Vitamin B 6 –

what to eat during pregnancy

Woman on contraceptive pills shows low Vitamin B6 levels. Vitamin B6 is a nutrient involved in reproduction process. Thus, Vitamin B6 supplementation becomes necessary if the couple is planning a baby.

Food sources of Vitamin B 6

  • Sunflower seeds
  • Fish and Chicken
  • Avocados
  • Cooked banana
  • Spinach.
  1. Vitamin B 12 –

Vitamin B 12 in foetus is absorbed from the mother’s reserves. Hence B 12 supplements during conception protects against depletion of maternal stores. Vegetarians have very low stores of vitamin B 12, so supplements are the best option.

Sources of Vitamin B 12

  • Eggs
  • Beef Liver
  • Milk and Yogurt
  • Cheese
  • Fish like Mackerel and Sardine
  • Red Meat

  1. Iron –

Indian diet plan for conceiving

Iron supplement is required if the woman shows signs of anaemia. Fetus absorbs iron from mother’s stores. Also during pregnancy the increased blood volume decreases iron in blood. To avoid any malnutrition in mother and child, mother should have normal iron stores months before planning a baby.

Food sources of iron

  • Red meat
  • Organ meats like Liver
  • Pork and poultry
  • Seafood like oysters and Halibut fish
  • Beans
  • spinach
  • Dried Raisins and apricots
  • Iron-fortified cereals, breads and pastas.

Some Tips on conceiving

  • Kick out the stress:

Everyone wants to win the rat race. Day to day struggle of long working hours, no sufficient time for own self or for family. Delay in achieving goals lead to stress. Stress is root cause of hormonal disarray. Stress disturbs the ovulatory cycle in females. Either the egg production is delayed or if produced is weak to conceive. Recreational activities like music, dance or sports, gardening, meditation or exercise have proved to reduce stress.

  • Control your caffeine:

High caffeine consumption i.e. more than 3 – 4 cups of strong coffee may affect the fertility in woman. Though there is no enough literature confirming the belief. Hence a moderate and cautious consumption of coffee or tea is not harmful.

  • Avoid Alcohol:

Alcohol accelerates the chances of miscarriage and still births. It is hard to tell when a woman conceives before 28 days of pregnancy. Thus, alcohol consumption can lead to a miscarriage even before knowing the woman is pregnant.

  • Stop Smoking:

Smoking can lead to infertility. The chemicals in cigarette can harm reproductive organs. It can disturb ovulation and cause premature menopause and also increases chances of miscarriages.

Passive smoking is as injurious to woman’s health as active smoking. There is inhalation of same chemicals causing same damage.

        Hi Mridhush ,

If you control your asthama well. Than there is no reason to worry , you can conceive and have a normal delivery like every other women. You have to just be over cautious about the allergens and situations that causes an asthamatic attack in your case.

            Hi Mridusha,

1] You should discuss the medications in details with your gyneac , so she can record the progress of the growing fetus and Your organ functionalities duering the scan

2] It is better to take medicines for asthama in pregnancy , then to face asthamatic attacks , as that may lead to insufficient oxygen supply to the fetus , resuslting in unwanted circumstances. so dont worry about the medications.

3] it is only proper screening that can help you through the pregnancy to monitor that the baby and your body , both are functioning normally.

4] Stop worrying , be happy , time will pass by quickly and you will soon have your precious in your arm !

      Hi Roopa ,
is there is nothing medically worng in you and your partner, then you dont need to worry, the delay can be age related . but dont worry . the diet plan mentioned here is a folate rich diet that will help in conceiving and then protecting the fetus by supporting the pregnancy . at the same time the food items mentioned are essential in terms of nutritional stores in your body . so dont worry about it . if you feel the body has more heat , then you should drink more water. and eat fennel seeds you can also drink fennel infused water.

    I am 29 years (height : 5.3 & weight 61Kg). I am planning for a baby in few months.

I have started with physical exercise 2 months back and started taking in folic acid supplements.

Thought having a moderate healthy diet already .. still want to improve.

Do you feel I can further shut down few pounds and would recommend 16/8 diet till i actually try to conceive?

Thanks in advance for your advice on this.

      Hi Kalpana,

No i wouldnt suggest you to go on any of those tough crash diets or intermittent fasting if you are keen on conceiving immediately. Ahealthy diet , something of the sort mentioned in the article above is the best to support pregnancy as well as to ensure that your nutrient reservoirs are upto mark and ready to nourish you and your baby during pregnancy. if you want to shed a kg or 2 , you can cut down on the mentioned quantity but stick with the menu mentioned. also working out for 45 mins will help you attain a fitness level that you seek. so dnt worry.

      All the best !

      Hi Aarti ,

Well i know this can be really stressful . But remember stress can interfere with conceiving , so please dont stress out . You just eat healthy food as mentioned in the diet plan above , this will support conceiving . and be happy and enjoy this period . you are young and hence age is also not an issue for you to rush … it wil eventually happen. dont worry .. just give it some time … it takes 6 months to an year , or sometimes even more to conceive ..

My periods are also fluctuating, on an average its 33 days cycle. Can you please provide me with some tips so I ovulate naturally and also how to increase cervical fluid?

      Hi Hanna ,

yes dairy products when avoided , help in conditions like pcos . so keep it to minimum or avoid .. papaya is good too . but if you have any doubts , you can use other fruits like melon fruit , apple , pomegranate , orange , mosambi , anjeer .

      Hi Sneha ,

you havent mentioned your age , if your age is less than 28 years , than for the next 6 – 7 months , you shouldl cocentrate only on losing weight . after which you can prepare for conceiving . if you plan on weight loss and conceiving simultaneaously , none of it will be achievable . after weight loss , your pco will come a lot under control and will help you better in conceiving by improving your chances to conceive . exercises and diet both play a super important role. for all your other queries in particular , you can mail me at care@dietburrp.com

    Hi mam,

I am 27yr, 5.1ft, 48.6 kgs.. planing for baby since 2 years. I had fibroids , hemorrhagic cyst and endometriosis and undergone surgery in Oct 18.
After that, I was given Siphene 100mg with HCG 10000 past 2 months.. but I am unable to ovulate. My eggs are not rupturing, they turns to functional or hemorrhagic cyst. I still have one fibroid 3cm which was not removed during surgery as it may damage the uterus wall.. will that be the reason?
This month i am given latroze 2.5. Pls suggest me what I should eat for egg rupture..
I have very few months to try naturally. I am helpless.

    Hi Payal,

Your blog is really motivational and full of information I was looking for. So, thank you for that first of all. 🙂

I am 27 year old weighing 48 kgs. I got married just 4 months ago and want to conceive. This week I think I missed my period. I thought to test after a week, but on 5th day period came. The night before these period came, I was stressed for something. Do you think that caused the period to come as everything was going fine for 4 days and I was so happy to know that I got conceived.

Also, can you let me know if above mentioned diet plan is fine for me? or if anything else I should do? Your help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks so much in advance.

      Hi Aman ,

Thank you for reading at dietburrp. Thank you for your kind words , this is really motivating . i dont think you would have conceived , its just that your periods got delayed . so dont go into a negative thought that you miscarried. This will further cause stress and delay conceiving .

The above mentioned diet is definitely good for you . you can follow it . this will help you in increasing your vitamin and folic acid intake. I would also suggest you , that if you are really sure about your conceiving , you can meet a gyneacologist . she will prescribe you the needed vitamin and folic acid tabs . these further support pregnancy and increase your chances of conceiving.

      Hi Devika ,

It is very difficult for any one to predict if you can conceive this month . we can only hope for the best . conceiving depends on a lot of factor , and i really wish you luck that every thing works in your favor. the treatment going on is suitable in your case , and hence you are on the right path. Just dont take stress as stress can delay conceiving . be free, be happy and smile . If all goes as planned , you soon will conceive. All the best !

Hi Sameera , you havent mentioned your age . i would say that if you are under 28 – 30 years of age , then you should try to shake some 7 kgs of weight in a month or 2 and then try to conceive . well , the weekends wala chakker is a bit hard too. actually you will have to check homany days ka cycyle you have it all depends on that . you can use some apps.

      Mani ,

you have to lose some weight before you actually go and plan for a baby . if you conceive at this weight , your pregnancy will not be smooth , nmoreover the weight might not let you conceive easily . so please take 66 months seriious time to workout in the gym or do walking and jogging and diet hard , come down to atleast 75- 80 kgs and then whole heartedly plan for a healthy pregnancy .
