7 days GM diet plan is something everyone wants to follow for quick weight loss. GM Diet is very popular all over the world for the fact that it leads to very fast weight loss. There comes a time in the life of every overweight person, when they are ready to follow any hardship to lose some quick kgs. GM diet is the rescuer. The original diet is full of nonveg food items and stuff you would find hard to assemble. Hence, we have worked on an easy to follow Indian vegetarian version of 7 days GM diet. Benefits of GM diet:ย 

This GM diet was assembled by General motor company for its employees. This is why it is named as General motor diet or GM diet. This 7 days Diet plan has many benefits because of the way it is designed.

  • Quick weight loss:ย The biggest benefit of the GM diet is that it helps in quick weight loss. Most people drop around 3-6 kgs weight in just 1 week. Miraculous isn’t it?
  • Detoxification: Gm diet helps in Flushing off the toxins from your system. It mostly involves eating loads and loads of fruits and vegetables every day. This helps in providing micronutrients to the body.
  • Rest to the gut:ย The food items prescribed in this diet do not crowd the gut, and hence provide rest to your entire digestive system. This also helps in better elimination of wastes and toxins.
  • 7 day period is so small that you would remain determined and motivated to carry on with the plan.

Doโ€™s GM diet:

  • Increased Water intake

While on a GM diet, you need to ensure that you consume at least 10 glasses of water every day. Gm diet has a strict diet regime. It may often lead to headaches, malaise, profound sweating, and weakness. These side effects can increase in cases of dehydration. Hence maintaining proper hydration will keep you off these side effects. It also helps in better cleansing of the body system.

  • Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits

The GM diet basically comprises of vegetable as well as fruits intake. If you are keen on following it for the week, make sure you buy a huge variety of fruits and vegetables beforehand. Including different varieties of fruits and vegetables will ensure the availability of all micronutrients to your body. This will help you sustain the monotony and keep the side effects away.

  • Exercise

Although this diet plan is good for quick weight loss, it is preferable to follow a 45 minutes exercise/walking routine for 7 days. This will ensure that your muscles are toned as well as you lose weight from the right areas. Learn more about burning fat for weight loss.

Donโ€™ts of GM diet:

Avoid Alcohol – Alcohol provides a hell lot of calories, leave apart the toxins it inserts in your system. Gm diet is a very low-calorie diet plan. If you intake Alcohol while following this diet, it may lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) episodes. It can cause blackouts, drowsiness, and fainting.

All said and done, itโ€™s time now to take a look at the actual Indian vegetarian GM diet plan.

Day 1:

On the first day of this plan, you are required to eat only fruits. The quantity of intake is not defined, and hence you can eat till you feel full.

ย My Take:

To make this healthier, I would suggest you to –

  • Include a huge variety of fruits. Involve all colors of fruit to get maximum benefits of the antioxidants. Red, yellow andย green eat them all.
  • Wherever possible eat fruits with the peel, this will help in increasing your fiber intake. Like in case of apple and pear. This fiber will help you keep away from hunger pangs and will make you feel full.
  • Citrus fruits like pineapple, orange, lemon, sweet lime, strawberries will provide you with a lot of Vitamin C. This will help you in flushing off the wastes and keep a good shineย on your face and hair.
  • Eat all melon fruits – Melon fruits are high in water content. They will lead to increased urination, helping you flush the toxins and also water weight. This is specifically helpful in cases of water retention.

Day 2:

This is your vegetable day. This function is similar to fruits. The variety ensures that most micronutrients are provided to the body. You can boil them, steam them, have it raw or make a soup out of it. You can have 1 cup of baked or boiled potato too.

My Take

  • Have the boiled/baked potato for breakfast. This will ensure a good and energetic start to your day. If you donโ€™t like only potatoes, you can try this apple and potato salad.
  • Use spice to make your boiled/steamed vegetables taste good. No point eating them bland and then losing your motivation to move ahead.
  • Squeezing lemon on your veggies will not only add taste but also provide Vitamin C to assure that glowing face.
  • If you are fond of salads, here is a good recipe.
  • Add some green tea to your day to ensure detoxification. (without sugar)

Day 3:

The third day is a blend of the first 2 days. On this day you can have all the veggies and fruits you ate on the previous days. You need to avoid potatoes and bananas on this day.

My Take:

Yes, monotony is boring. My advice is if you really want to enjoy this week while you lose weight, try your hands at a variety of recipes instead of sticking to alone fruit or steamed veggie. Yes, there are a lot of tasty possibilities with this combination.

Day 4:

This is a high potassium and high carbs day. This will help in replenishing your energy stores. You are allowed to eat up to 8 bananas and 4 glasses of milk on this day.ย  you can spend the rest of the time eating fruits and vegetables or even vegetable soup (no cream).

My Take:

The Smoothie day, as I call it is a blessing in disguise, after the 3 days of munching on veggies and fruits, your taste buds would love the change. Just blend a smoothie out of 2 bananas and a glass of milk.

  • In a small personal experiment, I changed the bananas to mangoes (total 4 .no) and I saw the same effect. Mangoes are equally high in potassium as well as in carbs. Plus the combination is irresistible for me. You can try it too. This made me recharge my motivation to finish up the pending days.
  • Recipe for simple, low-calorie vegetable soup. (Fast to cook too).

Day 5:

This is protein day. You need to include paneer, curd, soy milk, soya chunks along with 6 tomatoes. The original GM diet needs you to eat 10 oz of beef, which provides around 60 – 70 gms of protein. To meet this, you need to eat either 500 Gms of paneer or you can also have 250 Gms of paneer + 20 gms of soya chunks + 150 ml curd.

My Take:

I observed a good drop in weight on this day.

  • I donโ€™t like eating plain paneer, I mean it is bland and I doubt if anyone really could eat it plain. So I suggest you grate some carrots and lots of chopped Bell pepper (very good for weight loss), onion and tomatoes. Make paneer bhurji (something like scrambled egg) out of it in 1 tsp olive oil. I used a lot of spices like cardamom, cinnamon, cloves for taste.
  • If you like soups, you can make a vegetable soup as well as add small paneer cubes to it along with some chopped veggies on top.
  • If you are an eggitarian, you could replace paneer with egg whites.
  • Some websites suggest eating Brown rice on this day. I found it irrelevant.ย  Brown rice is not protein for sure.
  • 6 tomatoes can be easilyย used in diets or as aย juice along with other veggies.

Day 6:

This day is more or less like your day 5. You can incorporate similar foodstuff in an increased quantity if needed.

Day 7:

On the last day, you can continue to eat the vegetables as well as fruits of your choice (avoid the high carbs ones) along with a cup of brown rice at lunch.

If you have done it all, at the end of the week you would find yourself weighing lighter than before.ย  I observed that every time I fought hunger while following the plan, I was full of demotivation and moreover, I wanted to give up instantly. But I tried to control that emotion by telling myself that the GM diet is about restricting food groups on particular days and not about remaining hungry. So I went on to eat what was allowed until I felt my stomach was full. This at least helped me in finishing what I started.

Note – I may have modified the GM diet plan a bit here and there in the best nutritional interest of the readers.

    Hi Payel,
    I did GM diet prior with your Non veg plan and it helped reducing around 3 kogs which is quiet good cause i was 58 kg and became 55 within a week

    my height is 5’2″ and current weight is 56 , So again trying GM DIET.
    NEED YOUR SUGGESTION IN BELOW THINGS

    1.In day 2 , i m supposed to have all green vegetable , is all kind of sprouts in boiled from allowed or I have to focus only on green veggis like Bhindi, cabbage or some leafy vegitable
    Why I m confused about sproutscause, they are basically source of protein too, so not sure about taking boiled sprouts.

    2. Regarding the Banana , where I stay currently only i find medium sized banana,they are not small in the sense. Should I have those 6 or 8 in the whole day and is it necessary to have only double toned milk or Slim milk?

      payal – No sprouts are not allowed on day 2 . because of the reason you mentioned. they are protein sources .

      – yes have 8 medium sized banana, have slim milk .

      yes you can have , just add rock salt instead of regular salt and use 1/2 tsp oil . not more than that

      Your body must have gotten used to the exercises and walking you do and now adjusts to whatever little calories you are intakingf. this happens in a lot of cases where despite of all efforts you dont lose a bit. breaking this plateau requires a lot of patience โ€ฆ. here is what you can do โ€ฆโ€ฆ.. exercise wise โ€“ stop doing what you are already doing for a week โ€ฆ and then you surprise your body with a new activity .. for ex โ€“ you have been walking all these days , so now change your activity to swimming / zumba dancing / skatting / gyming / playing badminton or lawn tennis โ€ฆ whatever suits you best. tai chi and kick boxing and pillates work excellently in such cases., i know its hard to find time and availabilty of such sports around you .. but if you want to get there .. you need to find harder !!

      Food wise โ€“ surprise your body yet agin by co nsuming food stuffs that you never did .. it changes your metabolic graph and hence makes you lose weight โ€ฆ. ex โ€“ if you have been eating wheat and rice as staples so far โ€ฆ dont eat them for an entire week , and consume other cereals like bajra , jowar , or ragi โ€ฆ. this funda has worked superbly with my clients .. you can try and see if it suits you too ..

    Hi this is kaushal Sharma age 19 height 5’3.5” weight 67 i want to lose weight. I’ve been exercising for 60 minutes and have been taking a diet which is less than 1200 calories. Average amount of calories I’m burning according to an exercising app is about 130-200 calories daily. Well I’m feeling like I’ve lost some weight also feeling my muscle are tightening. But the weigh isn’t reducing. Need your help!

    On day 4, how many banana we should take and what else we can take on that day with quantity .. as only 2 banana for full day will be challenge. Please suggets.

      there is some confusion . you need to eat a total of 8 banana on that day . 2 banana for breakfast , 2 for lunch , 2 in the evening and 2 at dinner. along with a glass of milk . if you feel hungry further , you can add other fruits and soups too.

    I think apko meri querry nahi mili hai.. please mujhe koi acha diet plan bataye i want lose my weight. main 26years old hu but mera weight 73 kg hai aur mujhe 60 kg tak ka weight karna hai. meri 1year old baby girl bhi hai pragnancy k baad mera weight badh gAYA hai jiski vajse main bahut tension main rehti hu aur i m feeling shy also because mujh itna weight nahi chahiye aur main meri baby ki wajhse gym bhi nahi ja sakati and khana khaye bina bhi nahi reh skti so please give me some diet plan and some suggestion also i want lose my weight in a week?? in a week i want lose 10 to 12 kg. please give me reply with possotive response and answer. thanks

      Hi Krushi , 10 kgs in a weeek is not a real goal . You will not be able to lose so much in a week , even if you fast completely . so its better to plan a proper diet . Walking or exercising for 45 mins everyday will help you in a good way to lose weight. along with the exercise you also need follow a healthy regime. if you cant go out and exercise as you baby i small , do home work out videos . you will find many on youtube.

    Hi, I am Dr ram Kulkarni,doctor by proffession.Its my 5 th day of loose weight in 7 days by 10 pounds.I followed plan from else where. This plan is more or less same.My weight was 70.5 kg on day one and now on day 5 ,it was 67.2.Somehow I have reduced it to 3 kgs. I want to know ,that if I start normal diet after this plan is over,is there any possibility of wt gain again? I am marathon runner,running 10kms thrice in week, walking 7-8 kms thrice in week with cardio ,stregth training regularly. I am trying to reduce weight ,and want have weight around 60 kg.My age is 57 and height 5.6 .I am both veg and non veg. please guide

      you are very small to do all these diets , but you can follow them partly . One thing that you should remember is , do not put impractical targets in front of you , you will only find disappointment. you know dear , start to workout , it will give you a different confidence and you will lose weight fast. in your age , exercises work better than diet. diet wise , just eat healthy , and avoid too much sweet , fried and junck food . this much is also enough .

    Hi,
    So I started the GM diet today and have eaten only fruits, but my problem starts from Tom as it only a vegetable day and me being a Jain I cannot start the day with a potato or carrots for my energy so I don’t know what to do
    Also eating vegetables raw or boiled is very hard, can we make like a tomato soup or mix veg soup and have them with a few spices etc.
    Please advice.

    Hi,
    So I have started the GM diet today and eaten only fruits but vegetables are a tough part for me as I am a Jain I dont eat potatoes or carrrot so what can giveme the energy for day 2 tomorrow and how can I eat the vegatbles as eating them raw or just boiled is not possible for me.
    Is there any soup or something that I can make of tomatoes and eat tomorrow?

    Day 1: fruits only (I took apple, grapes, pine apple and pomegranate)
    Day 2: veg only (cucumber, carrot, tomato)
    Day 3: veg+fruits
    Day 4: 4 babana + 2 glass milk
    Day 5: 1 cup rice+3 tomatos
    Day 6: steamed veg(cauliflower,broccoli,carrot,beans)
    Day 7: fruit juice
    Mom plz send me your suggestions to loss some more weightโ€ฆthank u..

      take a break for 15 days and then do round 2 . At the end of the day , this is a crash diet , and doing anything like this for long duration is detrimental for health .

    Hii I am kuhu, age 23, height 5’2 weight 68.
    This is my 2nd day of gm diet. Yesterday i had only fruits ( apples,papaya, kiwi, pear)and in the night i had obesygo shake which is also meant for weight loss and i ended up losing only 200gms. Did i go wrong some where? Please suggest me some good ways to lose more weight with this diet. Im on my regular exercise and tredmil.

      the obesygo shake .. !! you should have avoided that while on GM diet .. jut follow the GM diet as it is , and you will lose the max your body can lose . make sure you do a medium pace workout for atleast 45 mins to lose good weight

    I need ur help for reducing weight. I am 27 and my height is 5’5. From past 1-2 months, I gained a lot. Now I am around 74 kg. My marriage is on 31 oct this year. Is it possible to reduce belly and arm fat in this span. I normally eat very less oily food. Its just my tea intake or sometimes sweet intake become high. I am ready to do yoga and running which i used to do regularly last year. Please guide me

      Hi Archana , you can do 2-3 cycles of GM diet before your wedding and shed the weight off but there are healthier ways , ofcourse they will tae so time and efforts . let me know what you aim for . by the way , mean time you should start with atleast 45 mins of walking everyday .

    Can I have vegetables other than tomatoes? I was thinking of paneer saluted with capsicum, onion, carrot and tomato.

    Also, do I have to consume rice, only once?

    And by the end of day 3 I had only lost about 1.5 kg. Can I still loose more? Because I feel that I’ll consume a much heavier meal on day 5,6,7 as compared to other days.

      there is nothing to be demotivated . you are a young gal and with exercises you can get a very fit body . yes hard work is important . so make sure you put in efforts to work out 45 mins a day , this can be in the form of walking , gymig , playing any tyoe of sport or even cycling . and eat a nominal diet, keep yourself away from fried and junk

    My husband is 35 years of age and having high levels of triglyceride , Bp and borderline sugar level.
    He has been avoiding sweets and fried for long time as a precaution.
    We have been using olive oil and occasionally mustard oil for cooking.
    We try to make chapattis with wheatflour adding oats to make it more healthy.
    Drink apple cider vinegar in water and soaked chia seeds.
    Also he has been doing yoga and long walks and taking green tea everyday.
    But still his sugar and trigylceride levels won’t go down.
    Please suggest a diet plan that is suitable for him and can we take fruits empty stomach as well.
    As lot of contradictory theories on eating fruits on empty stomach are seen on internet right now.
    He drinks alcohol once a week.
    Please suggest what changes can we make in his diet plan to avoid high sugar and trigylceride.

      possible reasons of not losing weight while on GM diet –

      1] Hormonal imbalance has great impact over weight. and one will not lose weight unless this imbalance is corrected .
      2] you are on medications ( steroids , antibiotics , pain killers )
      3] your menstrual cycle is approaching. or is on .
      4] you started gym or any such intence exercise recently . ( within a week )

    I am on my 4th day of GM diet. I got my period today. Can I continue with my diet or do I need to stop and start again after period is over?

    By the way, I lost 2 kgs so far. Is the weight loss accurate or does my period effects the actual weight loss. When can I check for my real weight?

      yes periods will affect your actal weight , there is no harm in finishing what you started , coz you have crossed the harder days now , so dont worry . just follow everything as it is m and check your weight on the 5 th day of your cycle , this will tell you the actual weight status
